چکیده
"Water is an essential resource and its purity should not be negotiated when it comes to human consumption. This study investigated the antibacterial activity of Garcinia kola Hunteria umbellata seed epicarp on some bacterial isolates from sachet water. Duplicate samples ten brands water were purchased sales outlets around Ugbowo community, Benin City. Plate count techniques, minimum inhibitory bactericidal concentrations extracts adopted in this investigation. Heterotrophic counts revealed highest range 3.72±0.50x102 cfu/mL EJ lowest IB (0.00±0.0x102 cfu/mL) while total coliform value (3.62±0.30x102 (0.00±0.0 x102 cfu/mL), OL, IB, NOS UNI Aeromonas sp., Bacillus Pseudomonas Staphylococcus aereus Enterobacter sp. isolated. The antimicrobial susceptibility profile varying zones inhibition 4 mm for Kola 20 recorded against aureus extract. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration susceptible bacteria extract 6.25mg/mL 12.5mg/mL, respectively, except which had 50 mg/mL. a greater effect aureus, greatest with concentration 12.5mg/mL. has potentials as effective natural therapeutic agents harmful bacteria, preventing their pathogenic effect. Keywords: Herbal extracts, Hygiene education, Bactericidal Concentration, Sachet water."

متن کاملBiocidal activity of partially purified fractions from methanolic extract of Garcinia kola (Heckel) seeds on bacterial isolates.
The in vitro antibacterial activity of crude methanolic extract of the seeds of Garcinia kola was investigated. The extracts exhibited antibacterial activities with zones of inhibition ranging from 10 mm to 25 mm. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the diethyl ether fraction was between 0.313 and 5.0 mg/ml, while that of butanol fraction varied from 0.157 to 5.0 mg/ml. The butanol fraction...

متن کاملAntibacterial and cytotoxic cytochalasins from the endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. harbored in Garcinia kola (Heckel) nut
BACKGROUND The continuous emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria drastically reduced the efficacy of our antibiotic armory and consequently, increased the frequency of therapeutic failure. The search for bioactive constituents from endophytic fungi against MDR bacteria became a necessity for alternative and promising strategies, and for the development of novel therapeutic solutions. W...
